Significant Accomplishments Over Career:
  • Was issued 4 U.S. Patents, 2 assigned to General Motors and 2 assigned to Ford Motor Co. These last 2 have been on every Ford engine built since 1968.

  • Am a published author for both the Society of Manufacturing Engineers, and The Society of Automotive Engineers.

  • Was responsible for development and launching of Ford's first Electronic Ignition System and Ford's first Catalytic Converter System.

  • Was given Executive responsibility for designing a totally automated factory. This facility subsequently set a world's record for parts produced by a completely computer controlled Flexible Manufacturing System.

  • Was elected to the Belleville, Mi. City Council and re-elected twice

  • Elected Chairman of Areas Planning Commission

  • Elected Chairman of Areas Zoning Board of Appeals

  • Started and successfully operated "Carlson Excavating and Engineering Co" for 16 years, up to retirement.

  • Along with wife, Lilyan, owned and operated "Carlson Apartments" for 17 years.

  • Upon moving to Chapin, SC was elected as President and then Treasurer of our 112 member Home Owners Association

  • Developed a presentation on "The Time Value of Money"

  • Started "Carlson Technology Co." here in Chapin in 1993, which continues successfully today.

  • Was appointed to the Riley Institute at Furman University for research on Public Education in SC. My position is that of "Business Person".
  • Both Don and wife, Lilyan, hold private pilot's licenses.

Family:

Wife, Lilyan, has been my girlfriend and then my wife for the last 54 years. Lilyan graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Home Economics and a subsequent degree in Early Childhood Education from Eastern Michigan University, with a career span of teaching 32 years.

Our oldest daughter is a Middle School Principal in Mount Morris, Mi. Our other daughter is an Attorney for the State of Ma.

So why you might ask, do I spend so much time examining the financial and management practices of District 5? Because after 32 years of demanded performance and its attendant evaluation, it becomes obvious that with the District's excellent reputation for college bound students, there was basically nothing being offered for the non-college bound. In addition, the financial and business management systems are dysfunctional at best. It's my objective to give facts not fancy to the public so the necessary changes will be made.
